Sterlite Copper sponsors Rs 2.7 lakh for drinking water project at Vadakkusilukkanpatti


Thoothukudi : Sterlite Copper has sponsored Rs 2.7 lakh towards a drinking water project at Vadakkusilukkanpatti. Col.S.Krishnan handed over the confirmation letter on the sponsorship to Mr.Ashish Kumar, District Collector, Thoothukudi here on Friday at the Collectorate.

Sterlite decided to sponsor the project based on the request from the villagers as there is an acute shortage of water in the village. The cost for this project is Rs 8.1 lakh out of which Rs 2.7 lakh will be contributed by Sterlite Copper as people’s contribution.

The project will be implemented by District Rural Development Agency under ‘Self Sufficiency Scheme’. It will benefit 320 families residing in the village to get adequate water facilities.

Sterlite Copper has adopted Vadakkusilukkanpatti village as a model village and has been carrying out various community welfare initiatives at the village like infrastructure development works at school and community hall, renovation of public toilets, providing underground water storage sumps, dust bins, running of evening study centre and rural health clinic.

Mrs.Maria Ponnammal, President, Vadakkusilukkanpatti and Mr.R.Rajasekarapandy, Head – Corpoorate Social Responsibility, Sterlite Copper were also present during the event.

Sterlite Copper sponsors bed materials worth Rs 50 lakh to Thoothukudi government hospital


Thoothukudi : Sterlite Copper has sponsored bed materials worth Rs 50 lakh to Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital here on Saturday.

Mr.S.T.Chellapandian, Minister for Labour, Tamil Nadu cut the ribbon and inaugurated the handing over function in the presence of Mr.Ashish Kumar IAS, District Collector, Thoothukudi.
Materials comprising cots, mattresses, bedside lockers, bed sheets and pillow covers were handed over to the hospital and will be used for the benefit of patients in the new building constructed recently.

While speaking at the function, Mr.Ashish Kumar lauded the efforts of Sterlite for its initiatives to improve the quality of people in the district. Mr.P.Ramnath, Chief Executive Officer, Sterlite Copper listed out various initiatives being carried out by the corporate for the benefit of public in Thoothukudi.

Sterlite has recently constructed paediatric block at a cost of Rs 80 lakh in the premises of the government hospital. The company has also sponsored Rs 3 lakh to purchase medical equipment for the hospital.Sterlite has also been carrying out various health initiatives including project clean hand, medical and blood donation camps, running of 6 rural health clinics and construction of individual household toilets in the villages.

Sterlite Copper sponsors Rs 7.5 lakh to campaign against the use of plastics


Thoothukudi: Sterlite Copper has sponsored Rs 7.5 lakh to create awareness on the ill effects of non-recyclable plastic items.

Col.S.Krishnan, General Manager – Administration & Security handed over a cheque for Rs 7.5 lakh to Mr.Ashish Kumar IAS, District Collector, Thoothukudi at the district collectorate here on Saturday.

Sterlite decided to sponsor the awareness campaign on plastic eradication on the request from Thoothukudi District Welfare Committee (TDWC), a non-profit and charitable society formed by the district administration.

The main objective of the campaign is to create awareness on the ill effects of plastic carry bags, cups and other non-recyclable plastic items and to eradicate them in Thoothukudi. TDWC is planning to organise awareness campaigns in schools and colleges, erect display boards highlighting the ill effects of non-recyclable plastics and produce eco-friendly alternatives by involving the NGOs and SHGs.

Mr.R.Rajasekarapandy, Head – Corporate Social Responsibility, Sterlite Copper was also present during the occasion.
