Sterlite Copper to kick off Coastal Livelihood Project


Tuticorin : Sterlite Copper will kick off its Coastal Livelihood Project (CLP) by organizing a
spot admission camp at Fr.Augustine Pereira Community College on 24th June 2012 (Sunday)
between 10 AM and 12 PM.

Spot admission for Mechanic Air Conditioning & Refrigeration, Electrical Technician, Diploma
in Desktop Publishing Operator, Diploma in Fashion Designing & Garment Making, Certificate
course in beauty care, Diploma in First Aid & Practical Nursing, Diploma in Hotel Management
& Catering, Chudithar Set stitching and Kids wear stitching are the certificate courses offered
through this project.

200 students will be benefitted through this project this year and only 25 % of the course fee
will be paid by them for studying the courses. The rest 75 % will be contributed by Sterlite
Copper. Sterlite will be spending Rs 14 lakh for this project.

The aim of the project is to create employability among the coastal youth in the district.

Sterlite Copper is implementing CLP for the last seven years with the objective of providing
alternate employment opportunities for the coastal youth. Last year, 88% of the students were
employed and their average monthly income is Rs 4000.

Sterlite honours district toppers


Tuticorin :Sterlite Copper presented its 14th Scholastic Excellence Awards at a function held at AlagarMahal here on Wednesday. Mr.N.J.Kumaresh IRS, Additional Commissioner of Customs, Thoothukudi presented the awards to the district toppers of 10th and 12th public examinations.

The first, second and third rank holders were conferred with a certificate anda cash prizeof Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. Mr.P.Ramnath, Chief Executive Officer, Sterlite Copper presented awards to the schools which produced rank holders.

Apart from this, 20 students who secured more than 400 marks in SSLC examination and 7 students who secured more than 1000 marks in higher secondary examination from Sterlite evening study centres were presented a cash prize of Rs 5000 each by Mr.SridharNarasimhan, Associate Vice President, Sterlite Copper.Teachers of the schools and evening study centres were also honoured.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr.N.J.Kumaresh said, “I appreciate the efforts taken by Sterlite to motivate underprivileged children to go for higher education.”

Mr.P.Ramnath congratulated all the award winners and said that Sterlite was privileged to be part of their success and will continue to support the cause of education. He also added that Sterlite is giving educational scholarships to poor children every year.

In the class 12 exam category, S.Saranya (1179 marks) of SubbiahVidyalayam Girls Higher Secondary School, S.RathiVigneshwari (1175 marks) of Star Matric Higher Secondary School, S.ChristinaThilagavathani (1173 marks), K.ShrutiMeenakshi (1173 Marks) and S.Santhoshini (1173 Marks) of Holy Cross Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School received the awards from Mr.N.J.Kumaresh.

For the SSLC exams, V.Surender Raj (491 marks) of Spic Nagar Higher Secondary School, C.Iswarya (491 marks) of Holy Cross Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School, M.Sona (491 marks) of Ravila KRM Vidyalaya, Kovilpatti, M.Abinaya (490 marks) of Ravila KRM Vidyalaya, Kovilpatti, F.Ronisha (490 marks) of  Holy Cross Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School, M.Maria Shiny Kamala Chandrika (490 marks) of Kamak Matric Higher Secondary School, C.Anbu Serene Raj (490 marks) of St.Thomas Matriculation Higher Secondary School, A.Jovita Sharon (489 marks) of Spic Nagar Higher Secondary School and K.Rofina (489 marks) of Holy Cross Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School.

Sterlite sponsors sewing machines to hearing and speech impaired girls


Tuticorin : Sterlite Copper has donated sewing machines to 5 hearing and speech impaired girls here on Friday.

On behalf of Sterlite Copper Col.S.Krishnan, General Manager – Admin & Security handed over the sewing machines to the students in an event organised at Father Augustine Pereira Community College. This will help them to set up their own production unit.

The company has spent Rs 77,000 for sponsoring the same. The students have been trained by Sterlite in fashion designing under Coastal Livelihood Project (CLP). After setting up the unit, the students will be able to earn Rs 4500 per head every month.

Sterlite is training 250 youth of Tuticorin every year under CLP in which 8 different trades are taught and make them employable. Sterlite is spending Rs 14 lakh for the project annually. 

Mr.R.Rajasekarapandy, Head – Corporate Social Responsibility, Sterlite Copper was also present during the event.

Sterlite plants 15000 tree saplings on Environment Day


Tuticorin : Sterlite Copper celebrated  environment day by planting 15000 tree saplings inside the company premises here on Tuesday.
The function was kick started by Mr.P.Ramnath, Chief Executive Officer, Sterlite Copper by hoisting the environment day flag. Mr.P.Ramnath, speaking on the occasion, stressed the importance of increasing the green cover in reducing the impact of global warming and preserving ecological balance.
Mr.Pankaj, Associate Vice President, Operations in his key note address said that the initiatives intended to protect environment should be integrated into everyday life and should not be confined to a single day.
As part of the celebrations, 15000 saplings were planted covering 45 acres inside the plant. Sterlite employees also participated in this massive green belt development activity to show their commitment towards environmental protection and conservation.

Mrs.A Sumathi, Head – Health, Safety and Environment, Sterlite Copper said that the sapling planting was essential from the point of view of economic development and environment protection. She added that trees helped in keeping the environment pollution-free and facilitated improved rainfall.

The company has spent Rs 1.5 crore towards this mass tree plantation programme. Mr.P.Subbiah, Head- Environment, Sterlite Copper was also present during the event.

Sterlite Copper celebrates Environment Day

Tuticorin : Sterlite Copper concluded its week long environment day celebration by organising a grand function at Muthiahpuram on Wednesday.

Mr.M.Murugan, District Environmental Engineer, Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) participated as the chief guest of the event and delivered the chief guest address. Ms.F.Kowsalya, Social Worker spoke about the plastic awareness and importance of avoiding plastic usage for environmental protection.

500 fruit saplings were distributed to all the members of women self-help groups who participated in the event. Mr.S.Palpandi, Bird Conservator, Kuthankulam was also felicitated during the event.
As part of the environment day celebrations, week long awareness creation events and competitions were held for all employees and families of Sterlite. Mrs.A.Sumathi, Head – Health, Safety & Environment delivered the key note address and informed the gathering about Sterlite’s commitment towards the environment and various initiatives taken by the company to protect the environment.
Mr.T.S.Kumaravel, Assistant Environmental Engineer, TNPCB, Mr.P.Subbiah, Head- Environment and Mr.R.Rajasekarapandy, Head – Corporate Social Responsibility, Sterlite Copper were also present during the event.

Sterlite honours district toppers


Tuticorin : As 9 students bagged the first three places in the just declared SSLC examination results, the meritorious students were flooded with gifts and greetings from all directions.

Sterlite Copper presented the district toppers with shawls, bouquets & sweets to recognise their achievement. On behalf of Sterlite Copper, Mr.R.Rajasekapandy, Head – Corporate Social Responsibility, Sterlite Copper met them and congratulated them for their excellence in academics.
