STERLITE COPPER CONDUCTS FREE EYE CAMP


TUTICORIN: Sterlite Copper organized a free eye camp at Panchayat Union Primary School, Therku Veerapandiapuram here on Saturday.               

As part of Sterlite’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives in the field of health, various health and eye camps are being conducted in different parts of the district regularly. An eye camp was organized at Therku Veerapandiapuram in association with Aravind Eye hospital, Tirunelveli.

Around 120 people were benefitted from the camp and the participants were screened by a team of Aravind hospital doctors comprising Dr.Neha and Dr.Pooja.

During the camp, tests on various defects like myopia, hypermetropia, presbyopia, eye pressure, colour blindness were carried out on the participants and 30 people were referred for cataract surgery at Aravind Eye hospital, Tirunelveli.

Sterlite honours district toppers


Tuticorin : As girl students from the district bagged the first three places in the just declared plus two examination results, the meritorious girls were flooded with gifts and greetings from all directions.

Sterlite Copper presented the district toppers with shawls, bouquets & sweets to recognise their achievement. On behalf of Sterlite Copper, Mr.R.Rajasekapandy, Head – Corporate Social Responsibility, Sterlite Copper met them congratulated them for their excellence in academics.

Boomi Pooja performed for drinking water project sponsored by Sterlite Copper at Vadakkusilukkanpatti


Thoothukudi : Boomi pooja was performed for the drinking water project sponsored by Sterlite Copper at Vadakkusilukkanpatti. The pooja was performed in the presence of Mr.Veerabaghu, Block Development Officer, Pudukkottai, Mr.Shanmugavel, Chairman, Pudukkottai union and Mrs. Mariaponnammal, President, Vadakkusilukkanpatti.

The scope of the work includes construction of two borewells, commissioning of eight syntax water tanks with 1000 litres capacity and laying water pipeline covering 2200 meters.

Sterlite decided to sponsor the project based on the request from the villagers as there is an acute shortage of water in the village. The cost for this project is Rs 8.1 lakh out of which Rs 2.7 lakh will be contributed by Sterlite Copper as people’s contribution.

The project will be implemented by District Rural Development Agency under ‘Self Sufficiency Scheme’. It will benefit 320 families residing in the village to get adequate water facilities.

Sterlite Copper has adopted Vadakkusilukkanpatti village as a model village and has been carrying out various community welfare initiatives at the village like infrastructure development works at school and community hall, renovation of public toilets, providing underground water storage sumps, dust bins, running of evening study centre and rural health clinic.

Sterlite Copper extends financial support to carry out housekeeping work at Paediatric block of TGMCH


Thoothukudi : Sterlite Copper has extended financial support to carry out housekeeping work at the paediatric block located inside the Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital (TGMCH) campus.

On behalf of Sterlite Copper, Dr.R.Kailasam, Chief Medical Officer, Sterlite Copper handed over a cheque for Rs 1,20,000 to Dr.Rajendrarethinam, Medical Superintendent, (TGMCH) towards annual maintenance charges for housekeeping work at the paediatric block. This will help to provide proper facilities to the 40 inpatients who get treated every day.

The paediatric block was built by Sterlite Copper in the year 2009 at a cost of Rs 80 lakh. The sponsorship will help the patients in the block to be in the safe and clean environment during the treatment. Mr.R.Rajasekarapandy, Head – Corporate Social Responsibility, Sterlite Copper was also present during the event.
