Sterlite Copper distributes uniforms and chairs to children of anganwadi centres



Tuticorin: Sterlite Copper distributed uniforms and chairs to children of Madathur anganwadi centres here on Saturday.

In a function organised at the centre, Mr.Vinod Wagh, General Manager, Engineering Services, Sterlite Copper handed over the uniforms to Ms.Jasmine and Ms.Jansi, Tutors of the centres. Sterlite decided to give the uniforms to the children on the request of the tutors in order to encourage their enrolment and retention. Sterlite had already supported the centre by carrying out several infrastructure development works. 

Sterlite has been doing various child care projects in Tuticorin lile child friendly villages project, project clean hand to bring behavioural changes in hand washing habits among children, providing water facilities and infrastructure support to schools to improve their quality of lives in the community.

Mrs.Muthulakshmi, Assistant Project Officer, Mrs.Lalitha, Supervisor, Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), Mr.R.Rajasekarapandy, Manager and Ms.Suganthi Chelladurai, Associate Manager, Community Relations were also present during the programme.

Sterlite Copper gets commendation for strong commitment towards HR excellence



Tuticorin: Sterlite Copper has received the commendation of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for its strong commitment towards HR excellence. The award was presented to Sterlite Copper in the 4th CII National HR Excellence Award 2013 programme held at New Delhi recently.

On behalf of Sterlite Copper, Mr.Suresh Bose, Head – Human Resources received the award from Mr.Anil Sachdev, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, The School of Inspired Leadership, Mr.H.M.Nerurkar, Managing Director, Tata Steel and Mr.Ashank Desai, Co-founder, Mastek Limited in the presence of Mr.Jitin Prasada, Minister of State, and Human Resource Development.

Exuberant exhibition of leadership by the Senior Management, concentrated focus on improvement in policies and procedures in turn enhancing the career experience at Sterlite, constant engagement with employees at timely intervals and continual improvement in HR processes and practices scaling up to the market requirements are some of the key contributing factors to the success of Sterlite Copper in this award process.

CII has been recognizing organizations in certain key fields and it had institutionalized the National HR Excellence Awards in the year 2009-10. As per the CII HR Excellence Model, the assessment involved sharing of data in the form of the application document and site audit.

Companies including Essar Steel, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bharat Petroleum Corporate Ltd, Steel Authority of India, Aegis Limited, Vedanta Aluminium Limited, Hindustan Zinc Limited, JK Industries also participated in the event.

Sterlite Copper supports Vadakkusilukkanpatti drinking water project




Thoothukudi: The drinking water project at Vadakkusilukkanpatti village supported by Sterlite Copper has been successfully completed and was handed over to the community recently. In the handing over function, Mr. A.Devaraj, Executive Engineer, TWAD Board dedicated the project to the community in the presence of Mr.D.Dhanavel, Head – Projects, Sterlite Copper.

The project included construction of two borewells, commissioning of eight syntax water tanks with 1000 litres capacity and laying of water pipeline covering 2200 meters. Sterlite sponsored the project based on the request from the villagers as there is an acute shortage of water in the village.

The project was implemented by District Rural Development Agency under ‘Self Sufficiency Scheme’. The cost for this project was Rs 8.1 lakh out of which Rs 2.7 lakh was contributed by Sterlite Copper as people’s contribution. It will benefit 320 families residing in the village to get adequate water facilities.

Sterlite Copper has adopted Vadakkusilukkanpatti village as a model village and has been carrying out various community welfare initiatives at the village like infrastructure development works at school and community hall, renovation of public toilets, providing underground water storage sumps, dust bins, running of evening study centre and rural health clinic.

Sterlite Copper initiates cleaning of Srivaikundam north main channel



Tuticorin : Sterlite Copper has initiated the cleaning work in the north main channel at Srivaikundam anaicut. The inauguration of the project was held at Srivaikundam here on Saturday.

A special pooja was held and the cleaning work was initiated under the supervision of public works department officials in the presence of Mr.D.Udhayasuriyan, Chairman, Tamiraparani Project Committee and Mr.D.Dhanavel, Head, Projects, Sterlite Copper.

The north main channel starts at Srivaikundam and runs upto the tail end of Korampallam covering total distance of 38 kms. At present, the water flow in the north main channel is slowed down due to excess weed growth and as a result, the farmers are unable to get the required quantity of water for irrigation. In this situation, Mr.D.Udhayasuriyan, Chairman, Tamiraparani Project Committee submitted a memorandum to Sterlite requesting the company to sponsor the cleaning work in the north main channel. The company reviewed the proposal along with public works department officials and accepted the farmers request by allotting Rs 10 lakh for the project.

By undertaking this work there will be free flow of water in the north main channel which will benefit 50000 farmers covering around 25000 acres of agricultural land. The cleaning work is expected to be completed within a month. Mr.M.Kumaravendhan, General Manager – Projects, Sterlite Copper was also present during the event.
