Sterlite distributes free notebooks to poor students


Sterlite Copper distributed free notebooks to the underprivileged students of its Evening Study Centres at Tuticorin. In a function organised by Sterlite Copper, Mrs.M.S.Parimala, Chief Educational Officer, Tuticorin distributed free notebooks to over 1300 students of 21 evening study centres located at 21 villages of Tuticorin.

Sterlite has spent Rs 1.5 lakh for distributing the notebooks. Evening study centres are created with an objective to increase the pass percent of students and reduce the school drop outs in Tuticorin district. Students right from class one to class twelve are attending the evening study centres. These students are guided by highly qualified teachers.

Sterlite’s other initiatives to promote education include presenting scholastic excellence awards and providing scholarships to encourage students from villages to pursue higher education.

The corporate also extends support by setting up evening study centres, organising capacity building programmes and providing assistance to improve the infrastructure of the schools.

Mr.M.Sakthivel, Associate General Manager, Human Resources, Mr.N.Hariharan, Associate General Manager, Purchase and Mr.R.Rajasekarapandy, Head – Corporate Social Responsibility, Sterlite were present during the distribution function.
