Educational tour organised for students of Sterlite evening study centres

Sterlite Copper organised educational tour for the students of its evening study centres here on Sunday.

58 students from Milavittan village attended the tour accompanied by Sterlite employees. They were taken to the Science Centre at Tirunelveli. Mr.Vinod Wagh, General Manager, Engineering Services, flagged off the educational tour in front of Sterlite main gate.

All students are from economically weaker families of the society who cannot afford to take their children on a tour. The objective of the tour is to create interest on the students’ mind on science subject. The visit helped the students to understand the basics of science by seeing the models and experiments displayed at the centre.

“Students have a wrong perception that science is hard to learn. The tour was organised in order to help the students to understand the science concepts,” Mr.Vinod Wagh, General Manager, Engineering Services, Sterlite Copper said.

As part of CSR initiatives under the area of education, Sterlite sponsors students to pursue higher education every year. More than three lakh is being spent by Sterlite for presenting scholarships.

Sterlite’s other initiatives to promote education include presenting scholastic excellence awards to district toppers, providing free notebooks and uniforms to 1794 students of evening study centres to encourage students from villages to pursue education, improving infrastructure in schools of Tuticorin.
