Sterlite Copper sponsors Rs 20 lakh to construct badminton courts


Thoothukudi: Sterlite Copper has sponsored Rs 20 lakh to construct two indoor badminton courts at Thoothukudi District Sports Stadium.

Col.S.Krishnan, General Manager – Admin & Security, Sterlite Copper handed over a cheque for Rs 20 lakh to Mr.Ashish Kumar IAS, District Collector, Thoothukudi at the district collectorate here on Thursday.

Sterlite Copper is sponsoring the construction work on the request from the district administration. The district administration has planned to carry out several renovation works at the Thoothukudi district sports stadium as part of silver jubilee celebrations of Thoothukudi district. The total cost of the project is estimated as Rs 75 lakh out of which Sterlite Copper has come forward to sponsor Rs 20 lakh. The work will be carried out under Tamil Nadu government’s Self Sufficiency Scheme.  

“The badminton courts will have wooden flooring. The project will be a boon to promote the sport in the district and also help to train sports persons to compete at international level,” Mr.Ashish Kumar said.
