Sterlite Copper commemorates Environment Day


Tuticorin: Sterlite Copper celebrated World Environment Day at the company premises here on Monday. On this occasion, all employees took a pledge to work towards environmental protection. A ‘Environment Day Flag’ was also hoisted.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr.K.Pankaj, Associate Vice President, Operations said,”The initiative to protect and safeguard has to start with individuals – you, me and everybody.” Mr.Lovish Ahuja, Manager – Environment read out the Environment Day message and Mrs.A.Sumathi, Head – Health, Safety and Environment gave the vote of thanks.

As part of the environment day celebrations, week long awareness creation events and competitions were held for all employees and families of Sterlite. Drawing competitions were also held for children of various villages in which 200 of them participated enthusiastically.

A tree plantation drive was also undertaken at the company premises and at Mappillayurani panchayat. Sterlite Copper has planted over seventy thousand saplings in and around Tuticorin till date and has associated itself with environmental initiatives undertaken by government and non-governmental bodies in Tuticorin.
