Sterlite Copper supports ‘Little Sisters of the Poor’

Tuticorin : Sterlite Copper has contributed Rs 3 lakh for the construction of  an old age home of ‘Little Sisters of the Poor’ in Tuticorin on Thursday.

On behalf of Sterlite, Mr.Prasad Surya Rao, Vice President, Operations handed over a cheque for Rs 3 lakh to Sister Vimala of the old age home. Sterlite has already donated Rs 10 lakh for the construction of the home in October 2010. Due to insufficient funds and request from the sisters of the home, Sterlite decided to donate additional Rs 3 lakh.

The management of the old age home decided to demolish the old building and construct a new one since they were not able to accommodate its 110 residents. The new building will have the capacity to accommodate all the residents and the inauguration of the building is scheduled in October 2011.

People are accommodated in the home irrespective of caste, creed and religion, based on their economic status and age should be more than 65 years. The company decided to fund the construction of the home as the money will help to shelter the needy people. The old age home is completely dependent upon public charity for its day to day running.

Mr.R.Rajasekarapandy, Head – Corporate Social Responsibility, Sterlite Copper, Sterlite employees, sisters and inmates of the home were also present during the event.
