Sterlite distributes free notebooks to poor students


Sterlite Industries (I) Ltd (SIIL) distributed free notebooks to the underprivileged students of evening study centres at Tuticorin.

In a function organised by Sterlite Industries at 24 villages, 2000 poor students of 24 evening study centres received free note books for this academic year. Sterlite has spent Rs 1.5 lakh for distributing the notebooks. Evening study centres are created with an objective to increase the pass percent of students and reduce the school drop outs in Tuticorin district. Students right from class one to class twelve are attending the evening study centres. These students are guided by highly qualified teachers.

Sterlite officials handed over free notebooks to students of evening study centres at Milavittan, South Veerapandiapuram, Inigo Nagar, Pandarampatti and several other villages in Tuticorin.

Sterlite’s other initiatives to promote education include presenting scholastic excellence awards and providing scholarships to encourage students from villages to pursue higher education.

The corporate also extends support by setting up evening study centres, organising capacity building programmes and providing assistance to improve the infrastructure of the schools.
