Sterlite supports construction of ground level reservoir at Milavittan


Tuticorin:Sterlite Industries (I) Ltd has extended financial assistance to support the construction of ground level water reservoir at Milavittan village under NamakkuNaameThittam of the government.

Mr.S.R.Srinivasan, Vice President – Projects and Col.S.Krishnan, General Manager – Administration and Security, Sterlite, handed over a cheque for Rs 3.25 lakh to G.Prakash IAS, Tuticorin District Collector in the presence of Mr.Jawahar, Panchayat President, Milavittan.

The total cost for the construction of the reservoir is Rs 6.5 lakh. As there is an acute shortage of water in Milavittanpanchayat, government decided to construct the reservoir under NamakkuNaameThittam through which the villagers can create and maintain community assets, establish water resources and revive them.  The reservoir will help the village to store water and will act as a water resource for the areas coming under Milavittanpanchayat.

Sterlite Industries has adopted Milavittan as model village and various Corporate Social Responsibility activities in the field of health, education, women empowerment and infrastructure development are being carried out by the corporate in the village.     

The company has supported the construction of household toilets, set up two evening study centres and distributed free notebooks to poor students in the village. Company is also running mobile health clinic by which the villagers get free medical counselling and medicines. ‘Project Clean Hand’ has also been launched with an objective to bring behavioural changes in the hand washing habits among rural students.
