Sterlite felicitates Primary Health Centres and health officials for supporting Save A Child’s Heart Programme


Sterlite Industries (I) Ltd (SIIL) felicitated Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and health officials of Tuticorin for their support in implementing ”Save A Child’s Heart Programme” which is a joint initiative of Sterlite Industries and District Health Society, Tuticorin. As part of the programme, free heart surgeries were carried out on underprivileged children afflicted with heart diseases. Sterlite has contributed Rs 80 lakh till now for this programme.

Mr.G.Prakash IAS, District Collector, Tuticorin was the chief guest of the programme and he presented the certificates of honour to 23 Primary Health Centres and 5 health officials in the presence of 44 beneficiaries of “Save A Child’s Heart Programme”. Speaking on the occasion, Mr.G.Prakash said that contribution of private industries like Sterlite for a noble cause is commendable. He also added that IrudhayaPadukappuThittam initiated by the state government has helped the poor to undergo free heart surgery.

Mr.Pankaj Kumar, Associate Vice President, Operations, Sterlite, said, “Sterlite believes that Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives are a way to contribute to the society. Sterlite does not see CSR as charity, not even as a responsibility, but as an opportunity to improve the quality of life of the community”.  He also listed out the various CSR activities carried out by Sterlite.

M.VivekV.Savant, General Manager – Commercial, Sterlite, in his keynote address said that for the last two years, Sterlite has spent Rs 80 lakh for ‘Save A Child’s Heart Programme’ and 94 children from Tuticorin have benefitted since 2008. He also added that all the major health initiatives by the company are implemented in partnership with the district administration.

Two of the 44 beneficiaries also shared their experiences during the event. Dr.S.Uma, Deputy Director, Health Services, Tuticorin, Dr.V.A.RalphSelvin, Deputy Director, Health Services, Kovilpatti, Mr.R.Rajasekarapandy, Head – CSR, Sterlite and Ms.SuganthiChelladurai, Associate Manager – CSR were also present.
